I like Ike! Country First! 54-40 or Fight! Change We Can Believe In! These political slogans throughout America’s history have shown significance throughout political campaigns. From the leftists, to the righties, many different political parties have formed in order to spread their views on such topics like the economy, Social Security, and gay marriage. However, taxes, energy policy, and immigration are increasingly large issues that have always been addressed in any political party in America, and have shown much significance in today’s world. The diverse view points that Americans are able to possess on these topics are the reason why the US has grown to what it is now. If it weren’t for a myriad of parties, America would still be living in the 1800s. The Republican Party, Green Party, Socialist Party of America, Libertarian Party, and the Democratic Party have all revealed impact in US history with special views and opinions on taxes, energy policy, and immigration.
To start, as one of America’s most popular party, the Republicans believe in low taxes. They deem tax cuts will help promote economic growth and fix the current economic recession. On the topic of immigration, Republicans have a fairly conservative view. For employers who hire illegal immigrants, they should be punished and the illegal immigrants must not be allowed to stay in the US (Anderson page 80). Border protection is also a necessity with increased officers and improved fencing along the border. Their energy policy is to amplify domestic production right away whether it is oil or minerals. If they possessed control of congress, the Republicans would hope to establish drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. However, they do support conservation, just not as much as other political parties.
The Green Party is not a well recognized party in America, but it still has its views clearly laid out. Their tax policy is one that considers the people who benefit the most should return the majority of taxes. They sustain a “fair share” tax policy and hope to raise corporate taxes. The Green Party recognizes and respects the potential contributions of immigrants. They see immigrants as being helpful in the formation of economic growth. Therefore, they believe in a fair and logical treatment of new immigrants and value their rights. On the topic of energy policy, efficiency and the utilization of renewable energy is a vital opinion of the Green Party. It can be seen that the Green Party is less conservative than the Republican Party.
The Socialist Part of America however is even more liberal than the Green Party. They support a steeply graduated income tax policy that would tax the wealthy heavily, while the poor would not be taxed nearly at all. This particular party actually supports immigration. They respect the rights of new immigrants and work to defend their rights. Their energy policy is also one of their most vital issues. They hope to rid of nuclear power entirely and clean up all contaminated areas. Furthermore, their yearning is to end America’s dependence on fossil fuels while supporting renewable energy.
A party comparable to the Republican Party is the Libertarian Party. They anticipate cutting taxes in the same manner the Republican Party does; cut taxes on all classes. With immigration policy, they respect immigrants and desire to grant them amnesty. However, with this amnesty there will be repercussions. New citizens that commit crimes will be held accountable at a higher degree than others. Even more, border control would be improved with more visas being available. The Libertarians blame the government more than the public to be at fault for the energy crises. The dependence on foreign oil and the basis for the depletion of non-renewable energy is due to the government’s inability to act. They require for the government to be more liable with their energy faults.
Finally, the Democratic Party is America’s current political party. They consider a tax cut, but unlike the Republicans. A tax cut for the poor and middle class but not on the wealthy class is their policy. Immigration is a top concern for the Democrats also. If an illegal immigrant does not have a crime record but does have a job, then that illegal immigrant should be allowed to reside and eventually become citizens (Anderson 80). They understand the value of immigrants in America’s economy. Democrats hope to stop the use of oil and turn toward renewable sources and maintain conservation. As the 44th president of the United States of America enters his term, new hopes of change are possessed by millions of Americans on the topics of tax policy, immigration policy, and energy policy. Only time can tell if the Democrat’s views and opinions will serve the future of America.
Looking at all these diverse political parties, much can be said about American politics. The Green Party, Libertarian Party, Democratic Party, Republican Party, and Socialist Party of America all play a significant part in history. From the founding fathers to present day President Barack Obama, each has had influence on people’s thoughts. All can be classified differently, especially on the issues of energy policy, tax policy, and immigration reform. Even though all these political parties have exceptionally diverse views on these subjects, America’s political system stands at the top of the world in success. However, it is this exact variety of difference in opinions that fosters the democratic ways of the United States. For this is what has made America great.
